Pass it around: Buzzed, a filament made from beer

If good people drink good beer, certainly they must build with it too. 3D printing filament manufacturer 3Dom USA has, as part of their partnership with bio-composite company, c2Renew, released a new filament made from – you guessed it – beer. Called Buzzed, the material is made using waste byproducts from the beer brewing process. “We get the byproduct from a local major label brewing plant. It’s stuff that would otherwise just be placed in a landfill,” says CEO Jake Clark, “We specifically look to make useful supposedly unusable material.” Unlike 3Dom USA’s previous release in the c2Composite line, Wound Up, which does print with a natural sugary coffee scent, Buzzed will not leave your work area smelling like a corner booth after bar-close. However, the benefits of the material lie in its repurposing of bio-based material, its visible grain fragments and the natural color gradient on finished products. This is the second in a line of intriguing materials filament from 3Dom USA called the c2Composites. More distinctive bio-based products will be released in the near future. Buzzed filament can be printed on any machine capable of printing with PLA and comes perfectly spooled on the 100% bio-based Eco-Spool™. Beautifully packed and vacuum-sealed to keep moisture out. Each spool of Buzzed has the diameter and ovality metrics posted right on the box, so you know that tolerances are tight. “Whoever drinks beer, he is quick to sleep; whoever sleeps long, does not sin; whoever does not sin, enters Heaven! Thus, let us drink beer!” – Martin Luther buzzed beer filament stein packaging
