Yes, you can order online for local pickup! Local Pickup will be a shipping option for you as you go through the checkout. Please note that it may be anywhere from a couple of hours to a full business day before the order is ready for pickup. Once it is ready, an email notification will be sent to you.

Currently, we only have local pickup available during the work week, though we are exploring options to have a weekend pickup available closer to summer 2025.

How to request assistance with a possible defective spool of 3D-Fuel filament?

If you are experiencing issues with a 3D-Fuel product, we want to help! We are typically available between 9am and 4pm via the livechat on our website and phone number. But sometimes you need help outside of those hours, or we may be out and unavailable. Here’s how to get a running start on assistance with a possible defective product:

  1. First, we need to know some information about the spool in question. Find the label on the spool and start an email to us at sales@3dfuel.com and include the Lot# from the spool. It will look something like 11-A1501-U201-2211. This number tells us what product it is you are using, when it was made, and even which line it was made on and which production operator worked on it.
  2. We’ll want to know which printer you are using. Our filament should work on virtually any 3D printer when using the correct filament diameter but occasionally some models have exhibited personality traits that can sometimes help us diagnose and solve the issues you are having more quickly. So please include the Brand, Model and any upgrades you’ve made to it.
  3. Next, we’ll want to know about some of your printer/slicer settings. Please include the hotend temperature you are using, as well as the buildplate temperature (if any) and the speed you are trying to print. This will look like 205°C / 45°C / 55mm/s when you write it all out. This helps us know if the settings are in the range for this filament type.
  4. We’ll need to know when and where you bought the filament. To you, this won’t matter. If you bought our filament, we warranty it. But to us, it helps us know how the product made its way to you - we track any purchases made through us or our Amazon store. Please include the date and invoice or receipt number for your purchase of this filament.
  5. If we cannot solve your problem, we may determine that the filament is defective. If so, we’ll want to send you a replacement or a coupon code. Please include your full name and address, phone number and email address so that we can do this for you.
  6. If there are any oddities that you have noticed, or you need to “show” us anything, PLEASE take photos and include those in the email. We pass these on to the production team so they can see for themselves any issue that got past them.

We have a policy of continuous improvement here at 3D-Fuel and we take every issue seriously and respond kindly to any issue you may have. We WANT to know about issues so they can be addressed and eliminated in the future.

When you have all that information ready, send it to us at sales@3dfuel.com

What is the difference between Standard PLA+ and Pro PLA+?

Pro PLA+ was developed from the ground up for 3D printing. It is tougher, stronger, has a higher heat resistance, and better layer to layer adhesion than Standard PLA+.

But first, a little bit of a history lesson on PLA and its place in the 3D printing industry.

At the beginning of the 3D printing industry, many developers looked for a compatible material that would be usable as a 3D filament. PLA was one that came a little later than the first big one, ABS, but it has become the “go-to” material for its ease of printing, lack of noxious fumes, and relative eco-friendliness. These first PLA materials, while an extrusion grade of PLA, were not designed specifically for 3D printing.

Many manufacturers use this as a base material and add colorant, of course, but some add other things, too. It has often been suspected that some may even include waste materials from other processes to act as a filler to “stretch” the PLA material in an effort to cut costs.

That is why 3D-Fuel only uses 100% NatureWorks Ingeo 4043D Resin to make our Standard PLA+. It has a proven record of being very usable for 3D filament and has a known origin in from USA-grown corn. Standard PLA+ is a good product with a lower price point than Pro PLA+ and is widely used in homes, schools, offices and more.

Around 2014, NatureWorks announced its first-ever PLA resin developed specifically for use as a 3D printing product. That Ingeo 3D850 resin is what we used to produce Workday PLA. This product provided a stronger, more flexible, and more heat resistant product to use in 3D Printing. When it came out 3D-Fuel quickly adapted it as our “best line” of PLA Products.

A couple of years later, NatureWorks announced a newly revised version of this product called NatureWorks Ingeo 3D870. Due to further improvements, it offers even more strength, more impact resistance, superior layer adhesion, additional heat resistance and greater ductility. These features make 3D-Fuel Pro PLA+ one of the best PLA products available today.

Our Pro PLA+ line, made from Ingeo 3D870, is by far the most popular and easiest to use product available in our lineup. It is used by everyone from home users to engineering professionals to manufacturers and receives fantastic reviews.

If you have other questions about our PLA products, reach out to us at sales@3dfuel.com and we’ll be happy to help!

What are the sizes and weights of your spools?

For 3D-Fuel materials, we primarily use two spools in the US: 1kg and 4kg. The material for these spools is High Impact Polystyrene

NOTE: We've used an AMS compatible spool design for our 1kg spools since October 2023. As of April 2025, effectively all of our inventory is on AMS-compatible spools unless otherwise mentioned.

Our "old" 1kg spools fit in the Bambu Lab AMS but did not allow the lid to fully close (it wasn't be able to latch shut).

The new 1kg spool enables you to close and latch the Bambu Lab AMS fully. It is also compatible with all 4 positions on the AMS Lite.

Does your 2.85mm filament work in an Ultimaker?

Yes, our 2.85mm filaments are compatible with Ultimaker 3D printers.

Do you offer free shipping?

Yes, we offer free US ground shipping on orders $75+ to the contiguous 48 states.

How much does a spool weigh?

Our standard spool used for 500g and 1kg spools of material weighs approximately 265g.

You can estimate the remaining filament on your spool by weighing it in grams and subtracting 265g from that total. The result is the approximate weight of material left on your spool.

Our 4kg spool weighs 925g. So, to determine remaining filament on our 4kg spool, subtract 925 from the total weight of the spool and filament in grams. (1kg = 1000g)

So, our full spool of PLA, for example, would weigh:

1kg spool = 1290g or 1.26kg

4kg spool = 4925g or 4.925 Kg

Do you offer discounts?

Yes, we do! We have a few different types of discounts depending on which type of customer you are.

Case Volume

Our 500g and 1kg spools ship in case quantities of 6 spools. We already offer free shipping on orders $49+ but it costs us less per spool to ship 6 spools at a time than to ship 2 at a time. So, order in quantities of 6 or more spools to receive a discount.

4kg spools ship in cases of 5 spools, so order 5+ at a time for a discount on 4kg spools.

Educational Discounts

We want to support students & educators! That's why we offer this discount to all verified educational accounts. To qualify, you must be able to prove that you are currently a student, teacher, or educational institution. More instructions on how to become a verified educational account can be found here.

Wholesale/Bulk Filament

If you go through 50kg or more of filament per month, reach out to us here. This discount can be substantial, depending on your proven monthly volume.
