Frequently Asked Questions

Where are your products made?

We make all our products in our own factories. In the US, our factory is in Fargo, ND. In the EU, our factory is in Moville, Ireland.

Is your filament environmentally friendly?

Yes! The large majority of our products are made using NatureWorks™ Ingeo™ PLA that is made right here in the US from plant-based plastic made from corn. No oil based products are used in our PLA products. PLA is compostable and will break down over time so it will not be floating around for lifetimes in the ocean!

Additionally, our composite products use byproducts from other processes that would have gone into landfills and mixes them with our PLA in order to become even more environmentally friendly. We even make filament with leftover char from burned municipal trash!

Where do you ship from?

In the US, we ship from our factory in Fargo, ND. In the EU we ship from Moville, Co. Donegal, Ireland.

How much of your composites are made from the byproduct material?

In general, our composites use a small percentage of the byproduct material (beer, coffee, hemp, trash, fiberglass) mixed with a majority of PLA. So the products still work and print like PLA.

Will your products work in my printer?

Generally, YES! Our products are made using exacting standards to fit the two most common sizes of filament: 1.75mm and 2.85mm. If your printer uses one of these sizes (most do) then it should work fine in your printer. Occasionally, there will be a need to place the spool on a spool holder outside your printer, or you may have a printer that uses cartridges that restrict the use of other filaments.

Do you offer Samples of your filament?

Yes! You can now buy a 50 gram coil of most types of our filament as a sample for only $5.00. This is a great way to see how our products perform in your printer and for your needs.

Are all your filaments made in the USA?

We make a few specialty materials only in our R&D department in Ireland (HydroSupport for one), but other than that, we make all our filaments here in Fargo, ND for the US and in Ireland for Europe.

What is Dyna-Purge® 3D-Clean™? And how is it used?

Dyna-Purge 3D-Clean is a specialized product made exclusively by 3D-Fuel for purging the extruder head in your 3D-Printer. When changing types of filament or colors, it is important to get all the previous filament out of the printer head before printing your next item. Using a stick (about 8") of Dyna-Purge will clean out your printer extruder head of any remaining material from the previous run. To use it, follow the same procedure you would for changing filament, but insert the stick of Dyna-Purge in place of the new filament and follow it up with your new filament type or color.
