At 3D-Fuel, we’ve always worked hard to strike the right balance between high-quality, USA-made filament and fair, competitive pricing. Today, we want to share an important update to one of our policies - and more importantly, the reasoning behind it.
What’s Changing
Effective April 2nd, 2026, our free shipping threshold for US orders in the lower 48 states will increase from $75 to $99 per order.
Why We’re Making This Change
Over the past year, we’ve seen continued increases across several areas of our operation, including:
- Raw material costs
- Packaging and supplies
- Labor and fulfillment expenses
- Shipping carrier rates
These are not unique to us - they’re industry-wide pressures - but they do have a real impact on how we operate day to day.
Rather than passing these costs directly onto our customers through higher product prices, we’ve made a deliberate decision:
We’re keeping our filament pricing where it is.
Protecting Product Value
We believe strongly that our products, especially materials like Pro PCTG, Tough Pro PLA+, and our Standard PLA+, offer exceptional value at their current price points.
Raising prices across the board would have been the simplest lever to pull. But that approach impacts every single order, regardless of size.
By adjusting the free shipping threshold instead, we’re:
- Preserving pricing consistency on individual spools
- Maintaining accessibility for smaller orders
- Encouraging larger, more efficient shipments
- Offsetting a portion of rising fulfillment costs
In short, this change allows us to stay competitive while continuing to invest in quality, production, and service.
Keeping Shipping Costs Competitive
At the same time, we’re continuing to invest behind the scenes to keep shipping costs as low as possible for our customers.
We’ve negotiated strong UPS Ground rates, and we actively pass those savings along to you. That means:
- Even when your order doesn’t qualify for free shipping, you’re still benefiting from reduced carrier rates
- We’re not using shipping as a profit center. We’re working to keep it as close to cost as possible
- Ongoing internal optimization of packaging and shipment profiles helps minimize dimensional and weight-based charges
This is an important part of the equation. While the free shipping threshold is increasing, we’re doing everything we can to ensure that paid shipping remains fair, competitive, and predictable.
What This Means for You
- Orders of $99 or more will qualify for free shipping
- Orders below that threshold will continue to ship at our reduced, negotiated rates
- Product pricing remains unchanged
If you typically place orders near the previous $75 threshold, you may want to consider consolidating purchases slightly to take advantage of free shipping under the new structure.
