ReFuel™3D - Fuel Recycled Pro PCTG, 1.75mm - 3D - Fuel

ReFuel Pro PCTG, Recycled, 1.75mm

**

ReFuel recycled Pro PCTG is an excellent way to try out Pro PCTG for the first time. Pro PCTG is like PETG on steroids with better impact toughness, better layer-to-layer adhesion, broader chemical resistance, more UV resistance, and a moisture absorption rate 1/3 that of PETG.

ReFuel™ is recycled filament from out-of-spec materials

Colors Vary - No Color Selection - AS-IS
Please Read:

This is the same filament material as our regular Pro PCTG, but is recycled from our in-house production waste. We've taken our Pro PCTG scraps and out of spec material (spools that were rejected during production due to over or under diameter readings), transition material and cut off waste and cut it into pellets that we can use to make filament!

It works great, prints great, and is otherwise almost equal to our normal Pro PCTG. We follow the same quality guidelines. We're just not printing the full-color labels and we're putting them in a plain brown box to keep costs low - we just sell it to recover the scrap material. We're making filament out of our own industrial scrap to keep it out of landfills and to provide a very usable material, especially for prototyping.

Color: Color will vary on this product. It is made of almost every color we make, and the darker colors seem to take charge. Depending on what we have reground, it could come in any shade of color in the future.

Since we mix ALL colors to make ReFuel, the colors will be mostly darker earth tones with black, brown, and red shades, but they can vary from grayish-white to nearly black. No color selection is available.

None are equal to our standard colors. Most likely, the items you receive in a single order will be all about the same shade and color as they will likely have been made as part of the same ReFuel production lot. (They are also boxed in plain brown boxes with no windows, so we can't even tell what color we pick when we ship them.)

Packaging: ReFuel comes vacuum-sealed with desiccant in a plain brown box with minimal labeling.

Size: To keep this product simple, we only offer it in 1.75mm 1kg and 4kg spools.

Compatibility: Pro PCTG ReFuel should work in any printer that uses 1.75mm filament.

3D-Fuel Pro PCTG is like PETG but better in many ways. It is tougher (8-12x tougher than PETG), more chemically resistant, and its transparent colors print exceptionally clear. Pro PCTG is an easy-to-use material with a lower moisture absorption rate than PETG and doesn't require an enclosure - use it just like PETG.

The broad color selection and ease of printing make it an ideal choice for printing in a multi-color 3D printing system like the Bambu Lab AMS.

Print Profiles

Print profiles for Pro PCTG on the Bambu Lab printers are available here.

Bambu AMS Compatibility

Pro PCTG ships on a Bambu AMS-compatible spool (tested in the AMS, AMS 2 Pro and AMS HT). Select the "PCTG Pro" profile so the AMS recognizes the material. Spool sizes and weights.

Pro PCTG is 8-12x More Impact Resistant Than PETG

Key Reasons for Better Impact Toughness:

  1. Molecular Structure:
    • PCTG contains cyclohexane dimethanol (CHDM), which gives it increased flexibility and toughness compared to PETG’s ethylene glycol structure.
  2. Flexibility vs. Brittleness:
    • PCTG is more ductile, allowing it to absorb and dissipate energy during impact without cracking or shattering.
  3. Layer Adhesion:
    • PCTG has better inter-layer bonding when 3D printed, reducing weak points in the structure where impact forces might cause failure.

Real-World Implications:

  1. Drop Resistance:
    • PCTG parts are less likely to crack, chip, or break when dropped, making it ideal for high-impact applications like enclosures or wearable devices.
  2. Repeated Stress:
    • PCTG can endure repeated bending or sudden forces better than PETG, making it more suitable for hinges, clips, and flexible parts.
  3. Durability in Extreme Conditions:
    • PCTG resists embrittlement under low temperatures, maintaining its toughness in environments where PETG may fail.

Example Use Cases Benefiting from PCTG's Toughness:

  • Protective housings for electronics or tools.
  • Drone parts and propeller guards.
  • Flexible clips, snap-fits, and living hinges.
  • Impact-resistant containers or enclosures.

Chemical Resistance

Chemical Type Examples PCTG Advantage PETG Limitation Comparison (CRR)
Alcohols Isopropyl alcohol (IPA), ethanol, methanol Resists prolonged exposure without degrading or cracking. Degrades or stress cracks with high alcohol concentrations over time. 1.8
Hydrocarbons Hexane, heptane, gasoline, mineral spirits Better resistance to hydrocarbon-based solvents. Softens or weakens when exposed to hydrocarbons. 2.0
Acids Acetic acid, citric acid, phosphoric acid Maintains structural integrity in mild to moderately concentrated acids. Degrades faster in acidic environments at higher concentrations. 1.4
Bases (Alkalis) Sodium hydroxide, potassium hydroxide, ammonium hydroxide Better resistance to strong alkalis. May crack or degrade when exposed to strong bases. 1.33
Cleaning Agents Bleach (sodium hypochlorite), industrial degreasers, detergent solutions Withstands harsh cleaning agents without discoloration or damage. Discolors, cracks, or loses properties with harsh cleaning agents over time. 1.5
Oils and Lubricants Engine oils, hydraulic fluids, cutting oils Resists degradation from prolonged exposure to oils. Absorbs oils over time, potentially leading to swelling or weakening. 1.6
Ketones Acetone, methyl ethyl ketone (MEK) Performs slightly better in low-concentration ketones. Softens or dissolves more readily in ketone-rich environments. 1.2

Pro PCTG Has Lower Moisture Absorption Than PETG

  1. PETG:

    • Hygroscopic: PETG absorbs moisture from the air, but at a relatively low rate compared to more hygroscopic materials like nylon or TPU.
    • Moisture Absorption Rate: Approximately 0.2-0.3% by weight after prolonged exposure to humid environments.
    • Effects of Moisture:
      • During printing, moisture in PETG can lead to stringing, bubbling, and surface defects due to water vaporizing in the hotend.
      • Mechanical properties (like impact strength) can slightly degrade over time with prolonged exposure to high humidity.
  2. PCTG:

    • Slightly Lower Moisture Absorption: PCTG absorbs less moisture than PETG, typically around 0.1-0.2% by weight.
    • Improved Resistance: Due to its cyclohexane dimethanol (CHDM) component, PCTG’s molecular structure makes it less hygroscopic and more resistant to moisture-induced degradation.
    • Effects of Moisture:
      • PCTG generally performs better than PETG in humid conditions, retaining clarity, toughness, and dimensional stability for longer periods.

Why the Difference?

  • Molecular Structure:
    • PETG’s glycol modification increases flexibility but leaves the material slightly more hygroscopic.
    • PCTG’s modified structure with CHDM reduces the polar sites available for moisture interaction, resulting in less absorption.

Practical Implications:

  1. 3D Printing:

    • PETG: Requires drying more frequently, especially if exposed to humid environments, as even slight moisture absorption can lead to print defects (bubbling, stringing, poor adhesion).
    • PCTG: Requires less frequent drying, making it easier to handle in environments with higher humidity. It is also more forgiving if printed without drying.
  2. Storage:

    • Both materials benefit from being stored in airtight containers with desiccant.
    • PCTG will be less prone to degradation if exposed to moisture for extended periods compared to PETG.
  3. Long-Term Use in Humid Environments:

    • PCTG is more stable and less likely to lose mechanical properties over time in high-humidity settings.

Drying

For both materials, drying before printing and proper storage is recommended for optimal performance, but PCTG is less maintenance-intensive in this regard.

When you need to dry Pro PCTG, use 70C for 6-8 hours, or 65C for 8-12 hours if your dryer cannot reach 70C. If your dryer has no PCTG preset, use the PETG preset.

Print Settings

  • Nozzle Temperature: 250-280C (hotter for faster prints, thicker layers and hardened nozzles)
  • Bed Temperature: 80C on clean textured PEI, no glue. Raise 5C at a time for warping on large parts; 85-90C is fine
  • Bed Surface: Textured PEI. Avoid bare smooth PEI (Pro PCTG can damage it); use a glue stick as a release layer on smooth sheets
  • Part Cooling: 5-40%, at least half of your PETG setting
  • Print Speed: Nothing above 150 mm/s; outer walls and top surfaces 100 mm/s or less
  • Max Volumetric Speed: 10-15 mm³/s on a 0.4 mm nozzle
  • Pressure Advance: Calibrate for Pro PCTG. Do not reuse a PETG value; this is the single biggest factor in clean prints
  • Enclosure: Not required. If you have one, keep it closed

Toolbox Yellow and Black Battery Caddy

"This caddy shows why PCTG is worth using for shop parts. The Toolbox Yellow is a close match to DeWalt yellow, bright and saturated, with enough gloss to look like a molded part instead of a print. The color stays even across both faces, including the large flat back panel, where uneven extrusion usually shows up first. The side view shows the dimensional side of PCTG. The two battery rails came out sharp, with defined latch steps and square slot walls, which matters because battery packs rely on tight rail tolerances to click in and stay put. Layer lines on the vertical walls are fine and consistent, and the chamfered corners and handle cutout have clean edges with no visible warping or corner lift on a fairly large, flat part."

Received 1 pure white roll & 1 black to CLEAR

"Super awesome colors to have received from recycled filament. One of the rolls white white, and the other literally transitions from black to clear, which I very super interesting. I have never seen a roll of filament be a clear and transition before. Glad I received two different colored rolls with my order."

New “go-to” Filament

"I’ve completely converted to PCTG as my everyday filament; and 3D-Fuel provides the best PCTG on the market. I have no use for PLA and PETG isn’t worth a few pennies in savings to take the place of PCTG."

— Dan (5/5)

Another amazing print with PCTG Pro

"I picked up the Matte Black for a project that called for a matte finish and the impressive material properties of PCTG Pro. A friend needed a replacement dash insert for his Infiniti G35 after the original cracked from years of use. I downloaded the Bambu H2D filament profile, applied the settings, and got an almost perfect print on the first try. Few filament companies seem to put this much effort into fine-tuning their profiles, if they provide them at all. Having a well-tuned profile is a real time-saver and adds even more value to an already excellent engineering-grade filament."

— John K. (5/5)

"I’m happy with the filaments performance and appearance. 3d-fuel provides print profiles and information, though they’re a bit conservative. The order took a while to arrive, but that was disclosed in the product description. I was hoping to try full spectrum on my H2C only to find out Bambu hasn’t easily implemented this yet (obviously not 3d-fuel’s fault). One warning: be careful drying this. The spools are made of HIPS and can’t tolerate higher temperatures. I’d be wary of anything over 70C."

Great filament

"I have found your filament to print a very specific part that needs overall stability but flexibility at the same time. I was going to use a PETG-CF, but found PCTG and tried it. It works perfectly for my product and comes in all the colors that I need. When I am fully ready to go, I will share with the class what my product is. PCTG, if you need strength and flexibility, it has it."

ReFuel! Great Deal, Great Filament

"This 3D‑printed LED lamp core is a great showcase for recycled PCTG. The translucent yellow filament diffuses light evenly while still letting the internal structure show through, giving it a modern, warm glow rather than a harsh hotspot. The vertical ribbing and rectangular cutouts add visual interest and help break up the light, so it looks good both lit and unlit. Dimensional accuracy appears solid and the cylinder sits cleanly in its base and the walls look uniform with no obvious warping or layer adhesion issues. Overall, it’s a clean, functional print that makes smart use of recycled material and feels like a sturdy, practical piece for an LED ambient lamp project."

— John K. (5/5)

This stuff is the best

"This stuff is the best filament for everything you’d use PetG for but much better. I’ll probably never buy petg again."

— Aaron R. (5/5)

"When I want tough, durable prints, 3D Fuel Pro PCTG is my go to. I've find nothing better. It's easy to print and consistently gives great results."
